Moving off PromptPerfect

PromptPerfect is being retired on 1 September 2026 following Jina AI's acquisition by Elastic. If you have prompts saved in it, they go with it. This is what to do about that, written to be useful whether or not you end up here.

1. Export before the door shuts

• Open every saved prompt and copy the text out. Save both the original and the optimised version: the pair tells you what the tool was actually doing for you, which is worth knowing when you replace it.
• A plain text file or a spreadsheet is fine. There is no standard prompt format to convert to, and anything more elaborate is wasted effort.
• Note which model each prompt was aimed at. That detail is the one most people lose, and it is the one that matters most when you rebuild.
• Do this now rather than in late August. Sunset dates slip forward more often than they slip back.

2. Know what you are actually replacing

PromptPerfect did three fairly distinct things, and most people only used one or two of them:

• Prompt rewriting: turning a rough instruction into a structured one. This is the part most users mean when they say they will miss it.
• A saved prompt library: somewhere to keep the prompts you reuse.
• Multi-modal prompt work: image and video prompt optimisation.

Work out which of the three you used before picking a replacement. If you only ever used the rewriting, a library-first tool will feel like a downgrade, and vice versa. If you relied on the image and video side, be aware that most of the alternatives appearing now, including this one, are text only.

3. The thing that changed since 2023

PromptPerfect was designed when a good prompt was largely model-agnostic. That is no longer true, and it is the single biggest reason a straight like-for-like swap disappoints people.

• Claude follows XML-tagged sections most reliably. That is Anthropic's own documented guidance, not a folk remedy.
• ChatGPT follows a literal, strict schema best: capitalised headers, short imperative lines, no prose padding.
• Gemini responds to numbered sequential steps plus an explicit output-format block.
• Grok wants a stated role, markdown sections, and a straight answer on whether it should go and search for current information.

One rewrite pasted into all four gets you the average of four different things. Rewriting per platform is the point, and it is why the tabs here produce genuinely different output rather than the same text with different headings.

4. Rebuild the prompts that earn their keep

Most exported libraries are mostly dead weight. A practical filter:

• Keep anything you used more than twice in the last three months. Rebuild those first.
• Bin anything written for a model that no longer exists. A prompt tuned for GPT-3.5 or Claude 2 is not worth carrying forward; the reasoning behind it might be, the wording is not.
• For each keeper, paste the original messy version into a rewriter, not the previously optimised one. Optimising an optimised prompt compounds the old model's quirks into the new output.

5. What to look for in a replacement

Whatever you choose, these are the questions worth asking. We have answered them for this tool, and the answers are checkable rather than promises.

• Does it rewrite per platform, or just tidy text? Run the same input through each target and compare. If the outputs differ only cosmetically, it is a text tidier.
• Does it interrogate you? Some tools ask ten clarifying questions before producing anything. Fine occasionally, exhausting daily. Here, gaps are inferred and genuine unknowns come back marked [FILL IN: …] so you can fill them in seconds.
• Can you try it without an account? Five rewrites a day here, no signup, no card.
• What happens to your prompt text? Ours is processed and discarded on the free tier. The privacy policy says so in plain English rather than in a schedule.
• Does it work where you work? A browser extension that puts the button inside Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok saves more time than any amount of copy and paste.
• Is the pricing legible? £7 a month, £59 a year, or £79 once. No seats, no credits, no tokens to reason about.

6. A five-minute migration

1. Export your prompts from PromptPerfect. Originals and optimised versions both.
2. Pick the three you actually use.
3. Paste the original of each into the rewriter, once per platform you use it on.
4. Compare against your old optimised version. Keep whichever is better, honestly assessed.
5. Save the winners somewhere you will find them again.

That is the whole job for most people. The libraries that take longer are usually the ones that needed pruning anyway.

Honest limitations

Worth knowing before you commit:

• This is text only. No image or video prompt optimisation, and none planned near term.
• Prompt history is a Pro feature, not a free one.
• There is no team workspace or shared library yet.
• We are a small operation, not a funded team. Support is a real person on email, usually the same day, and there is no phone line.
